When one decides to glimpse into the sphere of construction, they will come to find that the biggest chunk of the sector belongs to civil construction component. In Australia, the civil construction sector is one of the biggest contributors to the country’s economy as this sector is a multibillion-dollar sector that has a ripple effect that spans across numerous other industries.
To add to the importance of civil construction, soon after the pandemic the entire construction sector (including commercial construction has been experiencing rapid growth as the construction sector resurged.
The construction market, civil and commercial, is either directly or indirectly linked with other industries which include raw material suppliers (concrete, cement, steel, glass, heavy machines, tools and transportation just to name a few) and gradual infrastructure developments that appear uneventful when looked at from a micro perspective, from a macro perspective such gradual developments encourage economic growth of firms that provide a different array of services.
Civil construction firms are not only involved with the construction of buildings as they also provide other types of services such as providing consultancy, administrative assistance, problem solving, remedial services and even offer maintenance services for public utilities for both governments and commercial business. It is due to the expertise of civil construction firms in an array of construction and maintenance related fields that these firms are often preferred by property developers and governmental agencies.
Apart from construction related services civil construction firms also deal with land management and public safety related to natural environments. These outfits take the lead in managing hill slopes flanking roads and highways or hill slopes near residential areas to prevent land erosion that may lead to landslides. Building embankments for rivers or diverting rivers as part as flood control initiatives are also managed by civil construction outfits.
Maintaining natural eco systems or natural water reservoirs are also placed under the purview of civil construction firms in collaboration with environmental agencies that are generally affiliated with governments.
In a sense, without the civil construction sector, societies will not be able to function efficiently due to lack of conveniences such as roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, harbours, airports or even clean water, power supply and plumbing. Businesses will not be able to operate as efficiently as they currently do, some businesses will not be able to operate at all due to the absence of power, clean water and plumbing. In other words, the economy of a country would not be able to grow without the contributions of the civil sector.
As a matter of fact, without the civil sector, it would be literally impossible for an economy to even be in existence. From the very first human settlements, it was the civil sector that enabled these settlements to thrive and grow into commercial centres and expand geographically and grow bigger.
As a general statement, it could be said that humans could not have established civilisations without the contributions of those who work within the civil sector.
