Everyone wants to renovate their house to give it the perfect interior. After all, this is where you spend most of your time, right? True though this may be, your garage also serves a number of important functions. In addition to being your car’s home, you can store any number of things in it. And you can also move certain functions out of the house that might give your family some relief.

Indeed, garage renovations are very much on the rise these days. People are actually trying to outdo one another on how beautiful they can make their garages. Let’s take a look at some of the trends in garage renovations that will give both your car and your family some much-needed improvement and make it a more pleasant place to be.

Redoing the floor

The floor of the garage, you’re thinking? Most people tend to think of this as just being an extension of the outside; something to be avoided and kept free of anything you want to stay clean. But believe it or not, there is a trend in coating garage floors with nice, protective coatings.

You can coat the floor with an epoxy resin, for example, which can give it a nice, thick protective layer. Or perhaps a sheer paint that will brighten up the whole space. You’d be amazed at how big a role the floor plays in any enclosed space; protecting it and giving it a bright color will give the room a whole different feel. When you head out to pick up that snazzy car rental you’ve been planning, you want the perfect place to store it, after all.

What kind of car you get depends on where you live and a number of other factors. If you live in the mountains, you probably drive a 4X4. If you live in a big city, perhaps you’re looking at a fancy new sports car. If you’re in Dubai, consider grabbing something fancy that you can impress your friends with. You can rent a Lamborghini in Dubai and give it the perfect home.

Using the walls for storage

There are numerous different ways that you can add storage space to a garage. Many people tend to simply throw their tools and sports supplies into big bins, which is not only unattractive but makes it difficult to find things.

Think about the overall layout of your garage and where you have free walking space that is clear of the car. You can take that wall to add slatwall, and apply different hooks and fixtures to it. Make a map for yourself of all the things you think you could hang up (getting the kids to actually do it is a different story, but at least you can model it for them!). Then you can head out to the hardware store and start picking out your hooks.

Install overhead storage space

This might sound like a bit much for people that don’t consider themselves particularly “handy,” but actually putting together overhead storage units doesn’t have to be that difficult. You’d be amazed at the number of things that come with easy-to-follow instructions these days.

Think about the amount of room that being able to put things overhead would allow for. If you’ve got a ladder (and most garages do), you can store your lesser-used items – seasonal sports equipment, for example – in the overhead bins and be completely free of them during the off season.

Installing cabinets

Again, many people think that garages don’t need to be made pretty in the way that other parts of the house do. But if you install proper cabinets, it will give you a whole new perspective on the space as a whole, and probably the things you’re storing, as well!

Look around online for some designs that might match your space and coloring that would be suitable. Having cabinets with nice, finished doors can be just the thing you need to stay organized.

Your home is your castle

You know what they say, a man’s home is his castle. And your garage is just as much a part of this. Take the time to look at some of the things that people are doing to keep their garages in shape. Your car and your family deserve the best that you can give them.

Renovating the garage can be just what you need to keep everyone happy and organized. And if it all seems a bit overwhelming, maybe do it in phases. Start by adding some additional storage space and see how you feel. You will likely be motivated to keep doing more.

Remember, if you take the time to take care of your stuff, you will value it all more as a result. And the rest of the family will, as well.
